WQAD-TV Channel 8, Quad-City Times and WVIK, Quad Cities NPR covered Mercado on Fifth’s new plans for expanding programming indoors and year-round. “We ran out of room,” said Mercado President Maria Ontiveros. The new 6,300-square-foot building and 5,000 sq. ft. plaza will supplement the outdoor gathering space on 5th Avenue, allowing for more patrons and vendors. It also will provide indoor restrooms for market-goers, as well as a place to hold events throughout the year, rain or shine.
